Saffron Burrows was born 1st January 1973 in London, England. Two political minded parents who encouraged Saffron to stand up for the things she believes in raised her. In childhood, she sold the Socialist Worker newsletter for pocket money, attended marches and rallies after school with her feminist activist mother and stepfather, joined an anti-racist group at 11, and even once shared her home with striking miners. Today, Ms. Burrows lists Maya Angelou, Adrienne Rich, Marx and Galileo as her inspirations.

Saffron was only 15-years old when she was discovered by a well-respected talent scout, who also had discovered Naomi Campbell a year before. Ms. Burrows started modeling in England and France and also did some work in Italy and USA. She modeled for the likes of Calvin Klein and Vivienne Westwood. But the modeling business did not mean anything to her so Saffron was feeling frustrated and out of place. She had always been fascinated by acting, the theatre in particular, and often attended plays with her mother as a child. After two years of modeling, Saffron decided to quit and pursue her dreams of acting.

Ms. Burrow's first acting experience came at the age of 17 with "In the Name of the Father" (1993), in which she had a small role and dated the star of the movie, Daniel Day-Lewis. The film followed by several supporting roles in mainly British independent productions. Saffron's first significant acting role was the boyfriend-stealing best friend in "Circle of Friends" (1995) next to Minnie Driver and Colin Firth. The film also introduced Saffron to her then boyfriend, Scottish actor Alan Cumming, whom she was engaged to for a period of time. She even asked him to marry her once, and he said yes. "That would have been disastrous," he said later on but the two remain good friends to this day.

When Woody Allen was making "Celebrity" in 1998, he fired Saffron after five weeks of shooting and replaced her with Charlize Theron because apparently Burrows could not display the depth of vulgarity he needed. Afterwards, he sent her a note saying she had a "purity that the camera cannot hide". She kept it quiet for a while but returned with her biggest projects to date. Sadly "Wing Commander" and the shark spectacle "Deep Blue Sea" were both ill fated - failures in box office and trashed by critics but the later brought Saffron fame in the US and earned her a Blockbuster Entertainment Award nomination. Saffron warmed up the critics with an intriguing and passionate portrayal of the title character in "Miss Julie". She still considers "Miss Julie" some of her best work.

In 2000 Saffron co-starred in "Timecode", one of the 5 films she has made with her then partner, "Miss Julie" director Mike Figgis. Next to come was "Hotel". In 2001 she appeared in "Enigma" with Kate Winslet and Dougray Scott and starred in the erotic "Tempted". Next to come was smaller roles in much talked about films such as "Frida". Next Saffron packed her bags for exotic on location filming in Malta and Mexico to co-star as Andromache in 2004's "Troy". Next she returned to the London stage. She starred in "The Powerbook" by Jeanette Winterson at the Royal National Theater and in "Some Girls" by Neil LaBute. Burrows was next seen in the vampire saga "Perfect Creature" next to her "Enigma" co-star Dougray Scott and "Klimt" along side John Malkovich. She also starred in the short movie "Terrible Kisses".

In late 2006 Saffron starred in the Toronto Film Festival favorite "Fay Grim" by Hal Hartley. She also contributed several articles to magazines world wide, including "The Guardian" and "Condé Nast Traveler". In year 2007, Saffron had a busy year with several films coming out, "Marple: Towards Zero" (a TV production), Broken Thread", "Reign Over Me" co-starring Adam Sandler and Liv Tyler and "Dangerous Parking".

In 2008 Saffron took upon the two movies, "The Guitar" and "The Bank Job". In which "The Guitar" she portraited Melody Wilder a woman abandoned by her boyfriend, fired from her job and diagnosed with terminal illness and only given two months to live. Saffron spoke very positivly about this film and was happy to play the character. "The Bank Job" got a lot of good reviews and Saffron got some well deserved attention for doing her part well.
She also made some television series work which all her fans were excited about, in "Boston Legal" she did 20 episodes during 2007 and 2008, playing the character Lorraine Weller who got some attention from co-star James Spader's character Alan Shore. Once again Saffron got some notice and people started to get more interested in who this beauty from England was. Saffron made a gueset appearance in the series Wainy Days" which aired in the US on 13 June 2008 and starred in 9 episodes in the series "My Own Worst Enemy" in which she played a doctor for the second time in her career.

2009 was a little calmer year for Miss. Burrows and she starred in the film "Shrink" alongside Kevin Spacey who played a pessimistic, marijuana addicted celebrity therapist. She took upon to guest star in the series "Kings" as 'Death' and the episode, 'The Sabbath Queen' aired in the summer of 2009. In "The Eastmans" which is a TV production she gets to play a doctor for the third time next to famous actor Donald Sutherland and it's about a family of doctors and how they all are successful in their careers but not with their personal lives.

Much has been written about Saffron Burrows. It has been rumored that she used to date Bill Clinton and she once went on to name Hilary Clinton as her dream lover. Apparently she has personally told this to Mr. Clinton who found it very amusing. In 1999 she confirmed that she had had female lovers in the past. "If I was going to make a broad generalization, I'd say that I prefer the company of women," Saffron told Tatler magazine in 2000. Her five-year romance with Figgis ended in 2002 and Saffron met her new love, Fiona Shaw, when the two co-starred together in "The Powerbook". Saffron and Shawn have kept the relationship private but have confirmed that they share an apartment together in London. "I have a beautiful life, and it is precious and it is private. I am terribly happy. That is all. Why don't you ask about one's life in the anti-racist movement instead?" Saffrow Burrows most often plays women who are multi-dimensional and hard to categorize. She is opinionated, strong and non-apologetic for whom she is. She is very talented and has an eye for fantastic roles. "Sometimes, I think I'll give it all up and become a human rights lawyer," she says. I can't wait for what the future will bring for our girl, whether it is an actress or a lawyer... Needless to say, it will certainly be interesting and fascinating, much like the woman herself!
