1961 - Born in Maryhill, Glasgow
Followed his dad into painting and decorating.
1982 - Age 21, got some book tokens for a birthday presant and picked up Arthur Miller's The Crucible. We are forever thankful for this, as this was the kick-starter for going along to the Amateur Dram Centre and Glasgow Arts Centre, then joining the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
1990 - Got his big break in Ken Loach's Riff-Raff
1991 - Helped form 'Rain Dog Theatre Company', a theatre group that takes plays to local communities.
1999 - Awarded an OBE in the 1999 New Years honours list.
